Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm, by Chairman, Russell Bailey. Present were Russell Bailey, Ken Bodeen, Scott Jardine, Marge Ogren, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys, Brett Bodeen, and Troy Kavajecz. Pledge of Allegiance. Motion was made to accept the minutes as presented by Ken, second by Scott. All in favor. Motion was made by Scott to accept the treasurer’s report with a second by Ken. All in favor.
Citizen’s Input – none
ON GOING BUSINESS:
Kinney Valley Road Bridge Update – nothing new to report.
Water/Sewer & Land Use at 82930 White Birch Road. Diggers Hotline ticket was requested by owner.
Sewer repair – 9300 Gust Road. Troy stated that plumber said he will begin their work Oct 28.
Election Equipment on order with the county.
Ken reported on LRIP meeting. Prioritizing projects within the county has changed. Port Wing is 10th on the list with $36k in their available fund. Ken stated that the 90/10 projects will be available again this next year.
NEW BUSINESS:
Fire Dept/Ambulance reports read. Reviewed Ambulance budget.
Reviewed letter from Bayfield County regarding updating the Comprehensive Plan. Copy of letter given to Ken to report to the town’s Comprehensive Plan committee.
Old Cub Cadet mower in storage will be put up for sale. Asking $200 or best offer.
The Brick asked for a donation of a portion of the town’s allocated ARPA funds. It was discussed and decided the town needed all the funds for the sewer repair/maintenance.
Reviewed invoice from bridge inspection. The cost was higher this year because of underwater inspections.
Need to order Dump bags with TOWN OF PORT WING printed on them. 30x36x.0075. Pam will order.
Wheeler Restoration Site – Spoke with DNR. Work to be completed on site to rehydrate soil and seed. The DNR will be working with the school until 2024 improving the site. The side road to the site was cannot be accessed after culverts removed. Discussed wish list for site. Fixing a walking trail that uses the side road was highly recommended. Question about where the flyers for the site that were put together by the DNR were. They were supposed to be available at the Fish Boil for distribution. No one knows – will look into it.
ZONING REQUESTS: Vern & Linda Sandstrom at 12290 Almstead new construction of cabin approved.
Walter Borgstrom 80825 Swanson Rd new construction of cabin approved. Sharon Johnson 9040 Beach Rd – extension of time limit for travel trailer on site denied. Received notice from Bayfield County that special use application for Jennifer Neudeck at 83010 Washington for short term rental approved with contingency of health department license.
OPERATOR’S INPUT: Troy reported on recent activities of the Town Crew: Troy reported that a new sewer pump was installed. The old pump is not able to be repaired. A new hydromatic pump is $12,032 and is on backorder for 4-6 weeks. A new Flyght (?) pump is $14,000 and is available in 4 days. Flyght pump was approved for purchase. Sipsas will be delivering 4 loads of gravel for Flagg Road. Bayfield County has installed culvert liners and we will mulch the banks. Crew is ready to take out docks which is usually done by the second weekend in October. It was agreed to split the cost of the water pump needed for the sanitary district. Discussed the need to fix Old 13 – use sand from the pit and then cover with gravel. Troy will call about pricing.
Dustin reported for the fire department – Asked about fire extinguishers in the Town Hall. Town will reimburse the fire department for recharges/replacements. Need to get bill for diesel fuel used by the fire department. Requested that we check on the balance of funds available for the fire department.
Meeting went into Closed session to discuss wages for crew.
Meeting reopened after closed session
Next meeting set for Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 7pm. Meeting adjourned by Ken with a second by Scott. All in favor.
