Meeting called to order at 7pm, by Chairman, Scott Jardine. Present were Scott Jardine, Ken Bodeen, Carri Hoagland, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys, Brett Bodeen, Troy Kavajecz and Sam Kurland. Motion was made to accept the meeting minutes from 8-12-2024 by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor.
Motion was made by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland to accept the August 2024 Treasurer report. All in favor.
Citizen’s Input – Planning Commission. Sharon Graham reported that they are continuing to put together a grant request for repairing/replacing the dock at the harbor. Motion was made to appoint Denise Guerin as alternate board member for Planning Commission by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland. All in favor. Looking at getting grant for Solar Benches (able to charge phone, etc). from Xcel Energy.
Fire Department/EMT. Reviewed Fire Department and EMT reports. Equipment/Truck replacement plan discussed. Fundraiser at Port Bar on Sept 21st for Turn-Out Gear. #2 Pumper needs approximately $4,000 for repair. Motion made to approve use town’s emergency fund to help pay for repair by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor. A new truck is currently priced at $530k.
ON GOING BUSINESS:
• Solar Project/EV/Microgrid – no new updates
• Blacktop/Road projects –Need to complete grant paperwork on Kinney Valley culvert project.
• Crosswalks.
– Needs landing pad on both sides of Highway 13. Culvert on Johnson’s Store driveway is in disrepair. This will be replaced when highway is re-paved. Culvert can be extended.
• South Shore School Improvements – Referendum will be on ballot in November. Will ask Superintendent Danielle Miluka to address town board at next meeting.
• Driveway ordinances – Ken Bodeen made a motion to accept Driveway Ordinance 2024-2, second by Carri Hoagland. All in favor.
• Updated Culverts in stock – 2 for White Birch, 2 Grand Avenue and 1 for School Road.
• Discussed fixing spots where road was dug up for water/sewer installations and repairs. Need quote from Northwoods Paving for when they are in the area.
• Emergency Plan/Employee Handbook – will scan templates and convert to word to amend.
• 5th Street Project – owner wants to build and will need sewer/water. Will get requoted without second manhole on the project. Only need cleanout on western side.
NEW BUSINESS:
• Motion made to adopt Resolution 2024-2 to Objection to H.R. 9111 Apostle Island National Park and Preserve Act by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in Favor.
• Wheeler Restoration Site – DNR may want to purchase. Need to research how much land/value. Site is approximately 10 acres. Tax ID 28467
• Port Wing Sanitary District – Rate increase reviewed and discussed.
• COVID/Flu Shot Clinic at First Lutheran Church-Oct 9 from 10-12 and Nov 6 at Town Hall from 5-7
• Speed Limit on Quarry Road/Quarry Shores. Carri Hoagland made a motion for Speed Limits to be posted on Quarry Road – 35 MPH, Quarry Shores 25 MPH and on the corner 15 MPH, second by Ken Bodeen. All in Favor.
• Motion made by Carri Hoagland to use emergency funds to pay for 2000-hour maintenance (needed every 10 years) $13,366.94, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor
• 1995 Dump Truck needs oil pan fixed. Quote on new truck is $135k.
• Plan for sidewalks in town is tabled.
• Use of fill is tabled
• Need to get power at the Dump/Recycle center. Speak with Dave Elliott to get project going.
ZONING REQUESTS: Isaksson Non-metallic mining approved by Bayfield County
Next meeting set for Oct 15th (TUESDAY), 2024, at 7pm AT FIRE HALL. Budget meeting will begin at 6PM
