PORT WING TOWN BOARD MEETING MINUTES
March 2, 2022

Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm, by Chairman, Russell Bailey. Present were Russell Bailey, Ken Bodeen, Scott Jardine, Pam Holt, DuWayne Zupke, Troy Kavajecz, Marge Ogren and Nora Tribys. Pledge of Allegiance. Motion was made to accept the February 2022 minutes as presented by Ken Bodeen, second by Scott Jardine. All in favor. Motion was made by Scott Jardine to accept the February 2022 Treasurer report with a second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor.
Citizen’s Input – Planning Committee. Recognized as an official committee of the town.
ON GOING BUSINESS:
Kinney Valley Road Bridge Update – Bid opening will be March 16th at 7pm. Special town meeting scheduled. Ayers will open bids via Teams Meeting (Virtual).
Water/Sewer & Land Use at 82930 White Birch Road. No update.
Ken reported on LRIP. No update.
.gov domain set up – all town officials will be getting a portwing.gov email address. The cost will be $36/year per email address.
Health & Wellness Grant – Russell spoke with Sarah Whartman with Bayfield County. We will apply for additional funds to complete the pickleball/basketball outdoor recreation area. Russell suggested that we set up a committee to oversee the project.
ARPA Funds – we will be repairing the sewer line pipe on Braff Road.
Hold Harmless Agreement for residents using town property. Discussed and decided it was not necessary.
Election – April 5th. New equipment will be in place.
Bridge Aid – Bob Anderson will be asking for emergency aid for the balance of the culvert project. We will be asking for 50% reimbursement for the White Birch Culvert Project.
Blacktop bids sent to Bayfield County for their consideration.
NEW BUSINESS:
Cemetery Board Meeting set for Wednesday March 23rd at the town hall.
Annual Town Meeting will be April 19th at 7pm. April regular town meeting will be held immediately following the Annual Meeting.
Town looking for assistance to write grants for infrastructure funding.
Russell discussed email he received from neighboring towns regarding snowplowing. Some towns do not plow private residences. Some towns charge by the foot. We will review the cost of plowing for residents and propose adjusting rates.
Wheeler Road – need to provide legal description before adding to our roads
ZONING REQUESTS: None
OPERATOR’S INPUT: Troy reported on recent activities of the Town Crew: Troy received letter from Bayfield County Emergency after the last large snow storm. He has sent the WDOT information on where the manholes are for the upcoming Highway 13 project. Had to order a new relief valve for the snow plow. Russell recognized Troy and DuWayne for the excellent job they have been doing keeping our roads plowed! The drifting has been causing extra work.
Next meeting set for Wednesday, April 19, 2022 immediately following the Annual Meeting that starts at 7pm. Meeting adjourned by Scott Jardine with a second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor.
