PORT WING TOWN BOARD MEETING MINUTES

Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm, by Chairman, Russell Bailey. Present were Russell Bailey, Ken Bodeen, Scott Jardine, Pam Holt, DuWayne Zupke, Troy Kavajecz, Marge Ogren and Nora Tribys. Pledge of Allegiance. Motion was made to accept the January 2022 minutes as presented by Ken Bodeen, second by Scott Jardine. All in favor. Motion was made by Scott Jardine to accept the January 2022 Treasurer report with a second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor.
Fire Department – Update from Tygar Leveque –Tygar presented an article on Property taxes – stating that the Fire Department understands that funds are limited because of constraints from the State. Sale of Fire Truck will be ready for bid opening on March 2nd. Fire Dept/Ambulance reports read.
Citizen’s Input – None.
ON GOING BUSINESS:
Kinney Valley Road Bridge Update – Need to accept amendment to Ayers Bid because of costs incurred from the required DNR survey. Board agreed to amend. Ayers will handle publication for the bids. Bid opening will be March 16th at 7pm.
Water/Sewer & Land Use at 82930 White Birch Road. No update.
Ken reported on LRIP. No update.
.gov domain set up – Pam still working with Roger from Superior Lighthouse
Blacktop bids sent to Bayfield County for their consideration.
NEW BUSINESS:
Reviewed memo from Bayfield Country regarding affordable housing sites.
Received insurance funds to rebuild dugout. Scott Jardine will work with Fish Boil group to get the dugout rebuilt. Will submit invoices for reimbursement.
Town looking for assistance to write grants for infrastructure funding.
Signs will be purchased for No Guns/Weapons to be posted in Town Hall
Scott Jardine would like to review a map of the town to establish what is considered “In Town” and in the “Township”.
ZONING REQUESTS: Reviewed letter from Bayfield Country regarding the approval of Residential on Commercial zoned property for David & Suzanne Burr. Approved Class A Special use for Mark Greenslit for shoreline stabilization.
OPERATOR’S INPUT: Troy reported on recent activities of the Town Crew: Loggers on Wally Polk Trail. Trying to keep the road clear of snow. Snow mobilers complaining about how road is plowed on Olmstead Hill. There has been lots of drifting to keep up with for plowing. Frame broke on plow – Harry Danula welded it back. Ordered a new pump for sewer – It will be here in 4-6 weeks. Town Hall kitchen sink drain was frozen. Should be fixed now. We will be applying for County Forestry $5k funds for help on fixing up Old 13. Received a letter from the DNR regarding the sewer settling pond. We are required to get them emptied but no one in the area does it. Will be working on getting emergencies funds for the Culvert on White Birch. Russell will follow up with Bob Anderson at Bayfield County. Someone went around the gate at the Dump. Kenny also reported he will attend the District Meeting for Towns on March 28-29, 2022 (Virtual)
Next meeting set for Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 7pm. There will also be a brief town meeting on March 16, 2022 for the bid opening for Kinney Valley Bridge repair. Meeting adjourned by Scott Jardine with a second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor.
