Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm, by Supervisor, Ken Bodeen. Present were Ken Bodeen, Carri Hoagland, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys, Brett Bodeen, Troy Kavajecz, Sam Kurland, Tygar Leveque, Sheila Bergman, Sharon Graham, and Gayle Gonsior. Scott Jardine was absent.

Motion was made to accept the meeting minutes from 3-9-2026 by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor. Motion was made by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen accept the March 2026

Treasurer. All in favor.

Citizen’s Input

o Planning Committee. Sharon Graham reported the Planning Committee concludes their activities regarding the Harbor/Dock. Discussed the proposed ordinance for minimum square footage for single family homes. Bayfield County is having public meeting presentation for the new county Zoning Code. Apr 29th in Bayfield and Cable and Apr 30th in Iron River (Flyer posted on portwing.gov for more info). DNR will be here in May to meet regarding the Wheeler Wetland Restoration Site. Discussed recording the Town meetings and publishing on our website.

o Park Committee/Town Hall.

– Clean-up Day will be scheduled for June 6th

. The Bayfield County Wellness Grant will be submitted for outdoor exercise equipment that simulates cross country skiing. There is now a video on the Town website highlighting the parks in our area made by the high school student on the Park Committee! Waiting to hear on the grant for town hall acoustics. The stove vent will be addressed/fixed during the re-roofing project. Need to fix the emergency backup lighting in the town hall.

Fire Department/EMT. Tygar Leveque – Discussed Jeff Byerhof’s and Stacy Danula’s resignation from South Shore Ambulance. Bayfield County is considering hiring fulltime paramedics. There is a meeting with Bryan Ziemann, EMS Coordinator for Bayfield County, on April 22nd (can be accessed by Teams meetings). Gayle Gonsior noted that as of July 1st, South Shore Area Ambulance will have severely curtailed ambulance coverage.

ON GOING BUSINESS:

Blacktop/Road projects – Ken Bodeen working on grants – we were awarded an LRIP grant for Wisconsin Avenue from Helsing to Fifth Street. Ken is still working on completing the reimbursement paperwork on the Grand Avenue project.

Solar Project – Well site – need to locate the piping and determine where to put the solar panels. Still need to figure out internet access at the Wastewater Plant – needed for the energy management system.

Horse/Carriage reflectors –Scott Jardine met with Eli Shetler. Working on carriages getting simple reflectors.

Dwelling Restrictions – Discussed an ordinance for minimum square footage for new single-family residence. Bayfield Zoning suggested talking to an attorney.

Roof repairs – Advertised for bids – Deadline in May 1st. Opening at May 11th meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Need resolution for local road funding (requested by Town’s Association).

Need to appoint alternates for the Board of Review. Any volunteers?

ZONING REQUESTS: None

TOWN CREW REPORT: Sam Kurland reported – submitted request to the county for Road Aid on Battle Axe Rd. Crew met with Jolma Electric on our Solar Project. Working on equipment maintenance. Need to remove solids at sewer plant.

Dragging gravel roads and fixing flag pole in the park. Will be putting up 35mph signs on Touve Rd. Going to submit for County Bridge Aid for culverts.

Next meeting set for May 11, 2026 at 7pm. Meeting adjourned by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor. Reminder – Annual Town Meeting will be Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
