PORT WING TOWN BOARD MEETING MINUTES
May 8, 2023

Meeting called to order at 7 pm, by Chairman, Scott Jardine.    Pledge of Allegiance. Present were Scott Jardine, Ken Bodeen, Carri Hoagland, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys, Brett Bodeen, and Troy Kavajecz. Motion was made to accept the meeting minutes from 4-10-23 by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland.  All in favor. Motion was made to accept the special meeting minutes from 4-27-23 by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland.  All in favor. Motion was made by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland to accept the April 2023 Treasurer report.  All in favor.

Citizen’s Input

  • Planning Committee.  Ken Zivic – no new updates.
  • Saturday Market – Judy Moyer is stepping down as organizer.  Sally Stimac will be taking over.
  • Fire Department/EMT.   Ambulance report read.  Fire Department reports reviewed.  There is concern over the water in the parking lot and runoff into private property.  Town Crew will take a look at it.

ON GOING BUSINESS:  

  • Solar Project/EV/Microgrid – Bill Bailey is working with the State of WI and the Dept of Energy to get a grant for Port Wing that would pay for 80% of all costs.  Board agrees to have him pursue new projects for the town.
  • Blacktop projects – Ken submitted for White Birch grant.  Will hear in a few months. LRIP in progress. Highway 13 will probably not be resurfaced until 2026.
  • 83345 Washington Avenue – no update.
  • Health and Rec Grant – grant was submitted.
  • Clean-up Day will be June 3rd with rain date of June 10th. Some projects include cleaning up boardwalk, painting Museum, Twin Falls, Cemetery, shingles on Old Jail. There will be an early afternoon meal prepared for the volunteers at the Town Hall.
  • Snow Plowing – After reviewing the hours the crew put in for plowing, a motion was made to bill an additional $50 per driveway to help cover the town’s expenses.
  • Liquor Licenses – Motion made to approve Jardine’s South Shore Bar liquor license which renews July 1, 2023, by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland. All in favor. Motion made to approve The Port’s liquor license which renews July 1, 2023, by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor. Motion made to approve Johnson’s Store liquor license which renews July 1, 2023, by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland. All in favor.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Town Crew open position. Receiving resumes and applications. Special meeting scheduled for Friday May 19 at 8:30am to review and select applicants to interview.
  • Reviewed Xcel Energy’s letters notifying of access to land.
  • Basketball Hoop inside Town Hall.  Joe Bailey representing the Fish Boil Club updated Board the intent to install basketball hoop in Town Hall. Board has approved as long as windows are protected.
  • Board would like to recognize the Johnson Salvage Yard on Highway 13 that has been cleaned up over the past year.
  • Gutters for the Town Hall/Pavilion will be re-bid.
  • Greenwood Cemetery – charge for weekend burial increased from $150 t0 $200
  • Letter read thanking the Town Crew for incredible job performance for plowing snow

ZONING REQUESTS: None

OPERATOR’S INPUT:  Troy reported that the town was written up after inspection of the Salt Shed. Water can get in the shed. However, our salt/sand mixture is less than 5% salt, so there is no issue. Paperwork will be filed. Doing maintenance on the grader. Culverts failed with the spring melt/flood. Troy will meet with Bob Anderson to review if they are eligible for Bridge Aid. Waiting on drier weather to install new pump at sewer plant. Manhole on 3rd St will be patching. Troy will inspect Ravine Road for gravel/maintenance.

Next meeting set for Monday June 5, 2023, at 7pm (immediately after Board of Review).  Meeting adjourned by Ken Bodeen, a second by Carri Hoagland.  All in favor.
