PORT WING TOWN BOARD MEETING MINUTES
September 10, 2026
Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm, by Chair, Scott Jardine. Present were Scott Jardine, Ken Bodeen, Carri Hoagland, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys Brett Bodeen, Troy Kavajecz, Sam Kurland, Tygar Leveque, Sheila Bergman, Leann Hess, Sharon Graham, and Judy Lundquist. Motion was made to accept the meeting minutes from 8-10-26 by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen. All in favor. Motion was made by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland to accept the August 2026 Treasurer. All in favor.
• Citizen’s Input –
o Planning Committee. Sharon Graham – reviewing/updating the “10 Year Plan”. Looking for more people to join the committee.
o Park Committee– New toilets installed at old fire hall. Doorknob also repaired. May need easements to create a trail from Wheeler Nature Reserve to the town where “Okerstrom Ave would be”. Funding is available for trail easements.
o Town Hall Committee – A big thank you to Bill Bailey for power washing the town hall before Fish Boil weekend. Movie night is plant for the end of October (28th
– 6pm). Waiting to see if we get a grant for the acoustic panels from the Norvado Foundation. We will paint the walls to match the panels. South Shore Shop Teacher, David Gustafson, will have students manufacture protective metal grids for the town hall windows to enable basketball to be played indoors.
o Saturday Market – Amy Hubbell looking for help managing the venue/vendors.
• Fire Department/EMT. Tygar Leveque – EMR class is starting – 7 people signed up. The $487 cost of the class is free if you pass the test. Scott Jardine met with Iron River EMS to discuss possibilities of using their services.
o TOWN MEETING TO DISCUSS EMS SERVICES MONDAY SEPTEMBER 21, 2026, 6PM AT TOWN HALL
ON GOING BUSINESS:
• Recycle contamination – Still looking for solutions. Pam Holt will request videos from Republic.
• Blacktop/Road projects – Ken Bodeen working on grants
• Solar Project – Still working on status of the roof of town hall with and how to move forward. Can we push Town Hall portion of the project to 2027?
• Sump pumps throughout town need to be rerouted NOT to discharge in the sewer system. – Flyers to go out to sewer customers.
• Still waiting to hear from Red Cliff Health about when we can hold a CPR/First Aid Class at the town hall.
• Flu, Covid, Pneumonia Vaccination Clinic on Oct 14th at Lutheran Church 11-2pm and the Port Wing Town Hall 3-6pm (Wednesday)
NEW BUSINESS:
• Grader replacement or repair – EMERGENCY MEETING SEPT 24, 2026 AT 10 AM TO REVIEW/APPROVE OPTIONS
• Shout out to Norvado for WIFI installation for the Fish Boil! Do we want to make this permanent?
• Discussed new request for sewer on 5th Street near Hwy 13. This will not be completed without approved assessments of the properties affected.
• Judy Lundquist is researching funding/grants for the sewer replacement/repair – either USDA and/or DNR may have options,
ZONING REQUESTS: Reviewed update on Port Wing Self-Storage.
TOWN CREW REPORT: Sam Kurland and Troy Kavajecz reported – Household/Boat garbage being dumped in town garbage receptacles. Toilet paper being stolen from bathrooms. Discussed snow plowing residential rates. Because of excessive fuel price increases a motion was made by Carri Hoagland, second by Ken Bodeen to increase the snowplow residential removal rate to $250 per season. All in favor. Worked on toilets, grader repair and culverts on Pennsylvania.
Sanitary survey went well. Will be working on submitted reimbursement request to the county for work completed on Battle Axe. Water Hydrants need repairs. Siding at Well houses need repair. Weeding at the sewer plant. Lights to be replaced at the town hall and Solar bench to be installed! Need to meet at School Parking lot to review construction changes and the ability to plow the snow.
Next meeting set for October 13, 2026, at 6:30pm (Tuesday). Meeting adjourned by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri
