Meeting called to order at 7pm, by Chairman, Scott Jardine. Present were Scott Jardine, Ken Bodeen, Carri Hoagland, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys, Brett Bodeen, Troy Kavajecz and Sam Kurland. Motion was made to accept the meeting minutes from 7-15-2024 by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland. All in favor.

Motion was made by Ken Bodeen, second by Carri Hoagland to accept the July 2024 Treasurer report. All in favor.

Citizen’s Input – Planning Commission. Sharon Graham reported that they are continuing to put together a grant request for repairing/replacing the dock at the harbor. It was discussed to leave the footprint of the existing docks as is.

Fire Department/EMT. Reviewed Fire Department and EMT reports. Equipment/Truck replacement plan discussed. The fire department is spending thousand of dollars on trucks that are nearing 50 years old. Board requested an equipment/vehicle list with year/description/use/concerns for discussion at the next board meeting. Board would like to see a maintenance/replacement list for all equipment.

ON GOING BUSINESS:

Solar Project/EV/Microgrid – Scott Jardine submitted letter to the Federal Department of Energy recognizing the town’s portion of the cost of the project.

Blacktop projects –Hwy 13 project may be delayed until 2026

Wisconsin DOT – Speed Limit through town/Crosswalks. We did receive notice that the DOT will be installing sidewalk curb ramps between Grand and Pennsylvania Ave. Town crew inspected culvert on Johnson’s Store driveway. This needs replacement and approx. 10 feet extension for the crosswalk. Need to find out who is responsible for maintaining the culvert.

South Shore School Improvements – School Board Meeting on Aug 21 to address if there will be a referendum on the November ballot.

Driveway ordinances – Scott created a draft ordinance for board members to review. Tabled until next meeting.

AED Quote – Motion made by Ken Bodeen to purchase the AED unit for the Town Hall, second by Carri Hoagland. All in favor.

NEW BUSINESS:

Board reviewed Bayfield County Grant to address isolation and loneliness.

Alcohol License state laws in effect on May 1st. Background checks required. We will create an ordinance that required updated background checks every five years. We will do background checks for the July 2025 license renewals. We will inquire if Bayfield County Sherrif’s department can assist on facilitating the background checks.

Town Emergency Plan – Town crew to get their plan for Sewer/Water, etc. Stacy Danula to provide plan from the Fire Department.

Employee Handbook – request copy from Bayfield County to start setting up one for the town.

ZONING REQUESTS: NoneOPERATOR’S INPUT: CAT Grader needs maintenance package. The cost is approximately $13k. We will run a year-to-date budget to actual report to see where we are at before approval. Need to get old pan for Ford Dump truck. Dump/Recycle center overrun with scrap. Hired out equipment to get it loaded and hauled away. Will be working on gravel for Battle Axe Road. Old 13 entrance from Highway 13 is in disrepair/eroded. Need to put down gravel for a temporary repair. Bridge on Bodeen Hill needed to get cleaned out. Brett has been cutting grass on road sides and intersections. Need to attend another sewer maintenance class to get certificate. Pulling weeks at sewer plant. Dead tree by town hall pavilion will be taken down by Rodney Hipsher – we just need to haul away. We will change the price for accepting freon related appliances to $30 (refrigerator, freezer, AC units, dehumidifiers, etc).

Troy Kavajecz has been with the town for 25 years! Congratulations!
